USED PLANTS
SHRUBS USED
We have used several shrubs for more permanent structure in the garden. Shrubs that are low maintenance, do well in our region or provide some benefits to wildlife.
The main ones also have narrow vertical habit, so they don't take too much space and shade less:

GRASSES USED
Grasses provide structural support, taller ones add height and fall color. Shorter ones play role of groud cover, filler, edging plant or neutral fine-textured back ground flowering perennials.Cultivars of native grasses (Little Blue Stem, Muhly Grass a Switchgrass) are warm season grasses (grow actively in the warmer part of the season).

For the first year we have used some annuals for faster effect. These may seed around in the second or third year, but they will eventually disappear, when the perennials become more competitive:
